All-weather turf field & track renovation project (aka the Stadium)

It's Friday Night under the Nights....

field

Our football field is original to San Rafael High School, in place since the 1930’s.  And it’s time to really make the field green by replacing the grass with turf.  Advantages to a turf field include:

          • More economical - no need to continually reseed due to wear and tear of sports; no need for watering.
        • More environmentally sound - chemical fertilizer would not be needed equating into fertilizer not leaching into the ground and ultimately the water.
        • Easy re-stripping of the field during the season, along easy re-stripping for different sports.
        • Less injuries to players.  Each year when it rains the field becomes a venerable pit of mud for players to slide and become injured.

We are the only high school in the county with lights, so MCAL sports teams have the unique opportunity of playing night football games. Now we’re looking to expand the sports that “play under the lights” with a safer, more environmentally conscious multi-purpose, turf field.  Sports that would use the field include football, soccer and lacrosse.

Another first in the county....

in 1998 a group of committed individuals turned a dirt, unsafe, unusable track into the county’s first all-weather high school track and field facility.

Since 1998 the SR track has hosted many championship level meets, the San Rafael Twilight Relays, team practices, school events, and much more.  Countless community runners have logged lap after lap on our facility.

Though normal usage, all-weather track facilities need to be resurfaced once every 10 to 12 years.

Groups that enjoy and use the SR Track and Field.

While the track and field facilities are primarily utilized by San Rafael High School students, the facilities are open, to and used by community groups including:

  • Marin Academy sports teams
  • Local running club (Tamalpa Runners)
  • Youth sports groups
  • San Rafael community at large (SR track is an open, public facility).

Why should you support this venture?

1. San Rafael High School is the oldest high school serving the student of Marin County.

2. The field and track are "gathering" places for groups (a few are listed above)

3. Twlight Relays, hosted by SRHS Track, in the Spring. An event that showcases runners from around the county.

4. Encourages the youth and young adults of our county to participate in sports.

5. Promotes health and well-being of people of all ages!
